Amit, good one. finally got around to watch that one on my 8KBPS line. its ultimately a head vs heart call.

I haven't thought through the mechanics of this, but some form of 1st - 2nd - 3rd choice voting should be better able to capture people's pulse.

Rajesh, check out the GP platform: http://www.gp.org/platform.shtml which has a much clear mandate for ecological policies as well as their "10 key values" which explicitly states their commitment to "ecological wisdom" and "community based economics."

I think the economic models will soon have to shift towards being more green (natural capitalism, as explained by Amory Lovins and Paul hawken) if those models want to reflect the real world scenario.

Chaitanya, this is for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPbJY2rs0QI
It nicely sums up my reasons for voting for third parties in America. And the results at the state level in some states have been positive, though there haven't been any victories at the national level yet.

Hey Rajesh:

what happened to the 'straight talk express' ? :) . Seriously, yes, its more of the same from republicrats, with minor differences. That's why our friend Amit is making his disapproval of the duopoly heard, by going for a third party candidate.

Some people are calling this 'credit crunch' as just a precursor to 'nature crunch' ahead. Both are actually quite similar philosophically. The current one is brought about by excessive borrowing from other saving countries and excessive leverage by financial institutions, both combined leading to too much debt spending in the real economy.

The 'nature crunch' is from borrowing natural capital excessively in the short term, to run the current economy. Nature cannot continue to supply this much capital over the long term, hence the possibility of nature capital supply shocks ahead.

Hey Amit:

Agreed. Prudent people/businesses will also suffer. We live in a massively inter-dependent world. More collateral damage.

Chaitanya, but prudent people will also suffer, no? Maybe to a lesser extent, but any changes in the financial sector (e.g. higher interest rates, reduction in qualified loan amounts) will also be applicable to those who were prudent. We're all in this together. :)

One thing which struck me following this Presidential race and then also your post here, both the candidates are not addressing the big picture. I didn't see one straight forward talk to the American people from both the candidates saying that it is not only just wall street problem or bank's problem but also problem everybody's habits depending too much on credit and also as you said we may recover from this financial crisis but can't if something like this happens to the environment.
I agree it's all politics but I expected little more than that.
